Lviv Polytechnic National University is the largest scientific university in Lviv. Since its foundation in 1816, it has been one of the most important centres of science and technological development in Central Europe. In the interbellum period, the Polytechnic was one of the most important technical colleges in Poland, together with the Warsaw Polytechnic. In 2020, Lviv Polytechnic was ranked globally among top 500 universities according to The Times Higher Education.
From its early establishment Lviv Polytechnic has proved to be a powerful center of science and education in Europe, the generator of technical ideas and inventions. Based on many years of theoretical and experimental activities at the University were developed the scientific schools that are well known in Ukraine and abroad. They have leading positions in Ukraine in the following scientific and technical areas: nanomaterials and nanotechnology, new materials and technologies; energy- and resource-saving technologies; basic research of the most important natural, social and human sciences; advanced computer systems and information technology; instrumentation and measuring equipment.
Over the past decade, Lviv Polytechnic National University has become a true leader among universities and academies of Western Ukraine in providing high-quality higher education in accordance with European standards:
- the training of bachelor, specialist and master students is carried out by 16 Institutes, where Ukrainian students and students from other countries of the world study 64 bachelor’s degree programs and 57 of which are for master’s degrees. The educational process at the higher education institution is provided by 2500 academic staff members, among which there are almost 400 – Doctors of Sciences, Professors and more than 1200 – Candidates of Sciences and Associate Professors;
- the University Institutes train scientific and pedagogical staff at the Department of Doctoral and Post-graduate studies in 55 specialties.
