The Institute of Climate-Oriented Agriculture of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine is a leading research institution specializing in the adaptation of the agricultural sector to climate change. With over 135 years of history, the Institute combines strong scientific traditions with modern approaches and plays a key role in shaping climate-oriented agricultural policy in Ukraine .

Education

The Institute provides doctoral (PhD) training in Agronomy and Management and hosts a specialized academic council authorized to award doctoral degrees. Its researchers are actively involved in training highly qualified specialists, integrating education with research and innovation .

Structure

The Institute includes departments of irrigated agriculture and agroecosystem decarbonization, climate-oriented agrotechnologies, plant breeding and seed production, geoinformation technologies and economics, biotechnology, animal husbandry, as well as analytical and plant protection laboratories. This structure ensures an interdisciplinary approach to climate and agricultural research .

Research Activities

The Institute’s core areas of activity include:
– development of climate-oriented agricultural technologies and farming systems;
– breeding and development of climate-resilient crop varieties and hybrids;
– management of land and water resources, including irrigation;
– climate risk assessment and modelling of climate impacts;
– application of geoinformation technologies and artificial intelligence in agriculture;
– decarbonization of agroecosystems and support for green economy transition .

The Institute also focuses on applied solutions, providing advisory services to farmers, organizing training activities, and supporting the implementation of innovative agricultural practices.

International Cooperation

The Institute cooperates with research and academic institutions from more than 20 countries worldwide and is actively involved in international research and education projects, contributing to global scientific collaboration .

Role in the ClimEd Project

Within the ClimEd project, the Institute acts as a scientific and expert platform in climate-oriented agriculture, contributing to the development of educational content, research on climate impacts, and dissemination of project results among professional communities and stakeholders.
