The ClimEd Advisory Board was established at international and national levels to provide independent strategic, scientific and sector-specific support for the implementation of the project. Its main purpose is to assess the quality of project task implementation, the relevance of educational products, their alignment with the needs of climate services users, and to provide recommendations for the further development of project results.
The Advisory Board includes international experts in climate services, climate education, atmospheric sciences and professional competency development, as well as national experts representing key climate-dependent sectors of the economy and society.
International Level
Patrick Parrish
Expert in climate services competencies and capacity development; former WMO expert and current chair of a SERCOM expert team. Within the Advisory Board, he reviews the competency logic, professional relevance and international applicability of ClimEd results.
Alexander Baklanov
Expert in climate services, atmospheric sciences and international climate issues; Professor at the University of Copenhagen and formerly affiliated with WMO. He provides scientific and climate-service expertise, as well as advice on the international relevance and advanced practical application of project results.
Laura Riuttanen
Expert in climate education, atmospheric sciences, doctoral supervision and digital education at the University of Helsinki. She provides recommendations on educational design and on opportunities for promoting selected ClimEd courses through the Climate University platform.
National Level
Sergiy Stepanenko
Expert in climatology, hydrometeorological education and institutional development; ClimEd project leader during 2021–2024. He provides retrospective analysis of project implementation, contributes institutional memory and offers independent recommendations for the further development of project results.
Mykhailo Seheda
Expert in energy systems and electrical engineering. He provides sectoral expertise on energy-related courses and the application of climate services in the energy sector.
Mykhailo Voitovyk
Expert in agriculture and crop production. He assesses the practical relevance of educational materials for the agricultural sector, the operational needs of users and the potential for applied use of climate services.
Serhii Bubon
Expert in construction, architecture and construction management. He provides recommendations on courses oriented towards the construction sector, professional decision-making and implementation needs.
Yana Selikhova
Expert in city management, municipal recovery and urban development. She analyses the potential use of ClimEd results for strengthening urban resilience, municipal planning and community recovery.
Ivan Kichuk
Expert in water management and basin administration. He assesses the needs of the water sector, basin management priorities and the application of climate services in water management.
Valeriia Marichereda
Expert in health care and medical higher education. She analyses the relevance of educational materials for the health sector, the integration of climate-related topics into medical education and climate-related health risks.
Role of the Advisory Board
The Advisory Board complements the project quality assurance system. While work package leaders assess whether planned tasks have been completed, external experts analyse their scientific relevance, professional applicability, practical usability for different sectors and potential for use after the project ends.
The Advisory Board pays particular attention to the development of practice-oriented and sector-oriented learning pathways, the improvement of learning outcomes, the strengthening of international compatibility of competencies in the field of climate services, and the further dissemination of selected ClimEd courses through international educational platforms, in particular Climate University.
The recommendations of the Advisory Board are used to improve courses, update educational materials, plan the further exploitation of project results, and prepare new joint initiatives in the field the further dissemination of selected ClimEd courses through international educational platforms, in particular Climate of climate education and climate services.
