ClimEd in Action: Massive Online Course on Climate Change Launched at ONU

On May 18, 2026, a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) entitled “Climate Change: Causes, Impact, Adaptation” was launched at Odesa I. I. Mechnikov National University within the framework of the international educational project ClimEd. The course aims to familiarize a broad audience with one of the most pressing challenges of our time — climate change and possible ways of responding to it.

The course is taught by Oleh Prokofiev, Head of the Department of Meteorology and Climatology, and Inna Khomenko, Associate Professor of the Department of Meteorology and Climatology.

An important event of the first week of the course was the first open online lecture held on May 20, 2026, entitled “How the Earth’s Climate Is Formed”.

During the lecture, participants became acquainted with the fundamentals of the Earth’s climate system, the role of its main components, and the feedback mechanisms that can either intensify or mitigate climate change.

Ahead are new topics, practical assignments, and two more open online lectures that will help participants better understand climate change and possible ways of responding to it in real-life conditions.
