Economics of Climate Change: Case Studies and Best Practices in a Selected Sector of the Economy

Course description
Key aspects of climate modeling are summarized, including participants, infrastructure, and development of integrated assessment models (IAMs), as well as the role of international consortia. The importance of IPCC scenario approaches for predicting climate change is outlined. Economic factors of adaptation and decision-making support tools within the framework of the economics of climate adaptation (ECA) are considered. The impact of climate risks on sectors of the economy, in particular the agricultural sector, is analyzed, and international policies and European practices of applying economic methods are presented. The climate policy of Ukraine, regulatory and legal frameworks for adaptation of the agricultural sector, the challenges of the European Green Deal and their environmental, economic, social, and institutional aspects, as well as the strengths and weaknesses of the national economy for implementing sustainable development of Ukraine in the agricultural sector are separately highlighted.
