UN Sustainable Development Goals and Goal 13 in energy

The course “UN Sustainable Development Goals and Goal 13 in energy” was designed to develop a systemic understanding of contemporary challenges related to climate change, the energy transition, and the shift toward sustainable development in Ukraine and globally. Particular emphasis is placed on the analysis of global megatrends, their impact on economic, social, and environmental dimensions of development, as well as on the study of key international initiatives and policy frameworks, including the European Green Deal and the 2030 Agenda.

The course covers issues related to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, with a special focus on SDG 7 “Affordable and Clean Energy” and SDG 13 “Climate Action.” It also explores pathways for decarbonizing the energy sector, improving energy efficiency, and the deployment of renewable energy sources. Contemporary approaches to climate change adaptation, strengthening energy resilience, and integrating climate objectives into public and corporate policies are examined.

Special attention is given to innovative strategies and technologies that contribute to minimizing negative environmental impacts, as well as to the development of skills in assessing risks and opportunities in the field of sustainable development. The course also examines international experience in implementing effective climate solutions and the potential for their adaptation to the national context of Ukraine.

The course is designed to develop professional competencies necessary for designing and implementing sustainable development strategies, enhancing the resilience of communities and organizations, and meeting international climate commitments. Considerable attention is paid to cross-sectoral cooperation and to the roles of business, government, and civil society in achieving sustainable development.

Upon completion of the course, students will acquire the knowledge and practical skills necessary to implement innovative, environmentally responsible, and economically sound solutions aimed at ensuring long-term sustainability and societal development.
